Pool of the Arches

The Arched Pool in Ramla

This is the only remaining memory that Israel has of the grand structures from the Abbasid era. At least, archaeologists haven't found anything else yet. The Arched Pool was built in Ramla towards the end of the 8th century as an underground water reservoir. This architectural monument is considered one of the earliest examples of the use of pointed arches.

Tourists who visit Ramla always make sure to stop by the pool. The city is primarily known for this feature. There is plenty to see. The structure has been well restored, and visitors can even take a boat ride on the reservoir itself.

White Mosque (Ramla)

The White Mosque is an ancient Umayyad mosque located in the city of Ramla, in the Central District of Israel. Only the 30-meter minaret remains from the mosque.

According to Islamic tradition, it is believed that the tomb of Nabi Salih, a revered saint of Palestine, is located in the northwest part of the White Mosque.

According to Muslim tradition, it is claimed that 40 companions of the Prophet Muhammad are buried in the White Mosque.

Deer Rafat Monastery (Regina Palestine)

The name is associated with the Arab village of Deir Rafat (Arabic - "ruins of a monastery"), which once existed nearby, in the place of which the village of Givat Shemesh is now located.

The land belonging to the village was acquired by the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem in 1855. In 1925, here, on the site of the ruins of a Byzantine church, the construction of a modern monastery began. In 1927, after a powerful earthquake and the completion of construction, the monastery church was consecrated as the church “Regina Palaestinae” - in the hope that the Virgin Mary will continue to guard the monastery.

At the entrance to the monastery there is a bronze statue of the Virgin Mary with a crown adorned with 12 gilded stars; even today it is a kind of symbol of this place.
