This journey will take you along the Jerusalem route of the immortal novel "The Master and Margarita" by Mikhail Bulgakov.

Paradoxically, those who have read the novel imagine "Yershalaim-Jerusalem," while Bulgakov himself never visited the city. Therefore, his descriptions of Jerusalem in the novel are even more remarkable, as he portrayed the ancient city with astonishing accuracy.

However, there are still some differences. Guides on this tour will explain the reasons and details behind these variations.

The route begins in the Garden of Gethsemane.

  1. The Church of the Agony

In describing the death of Judas, Bulgakov challenges the biblical account and relocates the event to the Garden of Gethsemane.

Not far from the temple, slightly below it, there is an observation deck. From here, you can see the Kidron Valley.

"Is it true that you appeared in Yershalaim through the Suzdal Gates on a donkey?" Where can we find the Suzdal Gates today?

  1. The Church of St. Peter in Gallicantu. The Trial of the Sanhedrin. The House of Caiaphas, the High Priest.

According to common Christian belief, Caiaphas lived on Mount Zion. His house stood on the eastern side, where later the Church of Peter, also known as the Cock's Crow, was built.

Archaeologists have found evidence confirming this version. During excavations on Mount Zion, they discovered remains of a mansion that clearly belonged to a wealthy individual. They date back to the 1st century CE. The mansion has many rooms, storerooms, and ritual pools. There is also a dungeon. It is possible that it was in this place that Christ spent some time when he was in Caiaphas's house.

  1. The Essene Gate. Gabbatha (Lithostratos). The Secret Entrance to Herod's Palace.

  2. The Tomb in the Garden. Gordon's Golgotha.

  3. Antonia Fortress

This place is considered the first stop along the Via Dolorosa, the Way of the Cross.

Model of Jerusalem during the time of Christ.
