Excursion «119. Bental, Tel Dan Reserve»

Mount Bental is a very ancient dormant volcano located on the border between Israel and Syria. During the 1973 Yom Kippur War, one of the largest battles in Israel's history took place at Mount Bental because it is a key strategic point. Due to the intense fighting that occurred here, the area in the valley between Mount Bental and Mount Hermon came to be known as the Valley of Tears.

The place where our journey will take us is called Tel Dan. It is a nature reserve where nature and archaeological sites intertwine, telling us about the significant milestones in Israel's long history and that of its people. We will be guided back along a path next to the Dan Stream.

The history of biblical Dan is linked to Abraham. It is here that he pursued and defeated the kidnappers of Lot, who had been taken from Sodom. In the 11th century BCE, centuries after these events, his descendants arrived in this area and conquered a Canaanite city called Lish (also mentioned in texts as Laish, Lais, or Leshem). They renamed it Dan.

The city gained immense importance for the Kingdom of Israel. As the northernmost city in the country, it became the center of economic and cultural life and played a crucial strategic role. After the death of King Solomon, the Kingdom of Israel split into two parts known as Judah and the Northern Kingdom of Israel. The ruler of the latter, Jeroboam I (who governed the territory from 922 to 901 BCE), planned to build a Temple in Dan on the site where the city sanctuary was located. It was intended to serve as a replacement for Solomon's Temple, which remained in Judah.

The archaeological sites you will see in Dan span a vast historical period, some dating back 10,000 years. The city was first discovered by scholar Edward Robinson in 1838. However, it was not until 1966, over a century later, that excavations began here, led by archaeologist Avraham Biran. Since then, the excavations have been ongoing, but they are far from complete. Nevertheless, even the discoveries made thus far are considered archaeological gems in the Middle East.

And all of this is scattered amidst the stunning nature that you will admire throughout our journey.

Tel Dan may be small, but it is regarded as one of the most beautiful and interesting nature reserves in Israel.

If a tourist cancels an excursion in less than 3 days, there will be a 100% penalty unless "Cancellation Insurance" is purchased.

Tourists should arrive at the boarding point 10 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

Those who are late and do not go on the excursion will not receive a refund.

Requests for excursions for children under 5 years old are not accepted.

Responsibility for having an individual insurance policy falls on the tourist.

Tourists may wait up to 30 minutes for the bus.

Minor changes to the route are possible.

The company reserves the right to change the departure time for the excursion, which is communicated to the tourist the day before.

There is no indication of seats on the bus. Boarding and disembarking is carried out only at designated places.

The excursion begins after a sanitary and technical stop, and before that there is a transfer before the start of the excursion.
