Attractions

Fortress Ashdod Yam

The fortress was built in the 8th century AD, as part of a system of coastal defensive fortifications during the Arab rule - the great Umayyad caliphate. Kalat al-Mina in Arabic means "fortress of the port". It was a Muslim fort that defended the coast from raids from the sea, and in which the exchange of Christian and Muslim captives took place.

In 1033, a strong earthquake occurred on the territory of modern Israel, the walls of Jerusalem were damaged, Ramallah and Shechem were destroyed, and the Ashdod fortress of Kalat al-Mina was destroyed. At the end of the same century, it was largely restored by the new owners of these places - the crusaders, and it served as a staging post for them until 1260. After that, these lands become deserted, and the fortress falls into desolation.

It's amazing that the walls of this fortress have survived to this day ..
