Without any exaggeration,Jericho – a city that needs to be seen. This is the only architectural complex with such a rich and long history that has survived almost unchanged to this day. It began to be built back in the 8th millennium BC, and in modern times  it became the scene of many events that are described in the Bible, and now many places in Jericho are a living illustration of what happened 2 thousand years ago.

Of the most famous stories that, according to legend, the city witnessed, the Eternal Book describes in detail: “The Trumpets of Jericho” - the story of how the city was taken with the help of a trumpet, which was the mediation of God, and also within the city the healing of the publican Zacchaeus, a repentant sinner, took place. This healing was witnessed by the fig trees that the sinner climbed to see Jesus. Several of these trees have survived to this day, and you can see them.

Jericho – the oldest active architectural monument, whose age is 10 thousand years. Jericho experienced many different events and cataclysms, and they left their marks on his “body”. indelible mark. On our excursion you will be able to get acquainted with many architectural and cultural monuments, which, like milestones, reflect its complex historical path.

OnMount Carantal there has been a monastery of Temptation for many centuries, not far from which the famous spring of Elisha is located. It is famous for the fact that Elisha, in very distant times, made this source drinkable by desalinating the water with the help of a miracle. Also an interesting ancient “object” - this is the house of the harlot Rahab, who gave shelter to two messengers sent by Jesus.

Christians reverence this place as holy, so next to the house of the harlot a church was erected, which bears the name of the mother of all mothers – Virgin Mary.

The picturesque path leads to the canyon bed. From here you can enjoy a majestic panorama of the Jordan Mountains and the Dead Sea. In the Judean Desert the monastery of St. Gerasimos was built, the first stone of which was laid back in 455 AD.

St. George Monastery

This monastery was founded in the 5th century. In XII, it was destroyed by Turkish troops, but in the late XIX – early XX centuries it was completely restored. It is located on a small ledge of a steep cliff, and you can get to it either on foot or a donkey ride for a small fee. This is a man’s monastery, and before women were not allowed in, but now the situation has changed. Travelers are welcome in the Monastery - monks can even treat visitors with their own juices. In the rock itself there are many abandoned cells, where hermit monks once lived.

Zacchaeus tree

In Jericho, according to legend,  was a famous meeting of the tax collector Zacchaeus with Jesus. In Jericho there is an object that is a symbol of that meeting - the famous tree of Zacchaeus.
The tree is located in the very center of Jericho. Zacchaeus had to climb this tree to see Christ, after which Jesus noticed the publican and spoke to him (this event is described in detail in the New Testament).
At the moment, this fifteen-meter sycamore tree (the Tutov family) is located next to the Greek temple in Jericho and is one of the most popular attractions that tourists seek to see.
