Jericho is indeed a city that should be seen without any exaggeration. It is the only architectural complex with such a rich and long history that has survived almost unchanged to this day. Its construction began as early as the 8th millennium BCE, and in more recent times, it became the stage for many events described in the Bible. Many places in Jericho today are a living illustration of what happened 2,000 years ago.
Among the most famous stories associated with the city, as mentioned in the Eternal Book, are the "Jericho trumpets" - the account of how the city was taken with the sound of trumpets, serving as an intermediary of God. Also, within the city, the healing of the tax collector Zacchaeus, who repented of his sins, took place. Witnesses to this healing were the fig trees that the sinner climbed to see Jesus. Several of these trees have survived to this day, and you will have the opportunity to see them.
Jericho is the oldest active architectural monument, with an age of 10,000 years. It has experienced numerous events and cataclysms, leaving an indelible mark on its "body." During our excursion, you will have the opportunity to explore many architectural and cultural landmarks that, like milestones, reflect its complex historical path.
On Mount Quarantal, the Monastery of the Temptation has been active for many centuries, and nearby is the famous spring of Elisha. It is renowned because Elisha made this spring drinkable in very distant times by purifying the water through a miracle. Another interesting ancient "object" is the house of Rahab the harlot, who sheltered two messengers sent by Joshua.
Christians hold this place in reverence, and a church dedicated to the Mother of all Mothers, the Virgin Mary, has been built near the house of Rahab.
A picturesque trail leads up to the canyon bed, from where you can enjoy a majestic panorama of the Jordanian mountains and the Dead Sea. In the Judean Desert, the Monastery of St. Gerasimos was built, with the first stone laid as early as 455 CE.
Please note that a non-Israeli passport is required for travel to Jericho (Palestinian Authority). An additional fee of $15/60 shekels is charged for the cable car ascent to Mount Quarantal.

Attractions
This monastery was founded in the 5th century. In XII, it was destroyed by Turkish troops, but in the late XIX – early XX centuries it was completely restored. It is located on a small ledge of a steep cliff, and you can get to it either on foot or a donkey ride for a small fee. This is a man’s monastery, and before women were not allowed in, but now the situation has changed. Travelers are welcome in the Monastery - monks can even treat visitors with their own juices. In the rock itself there are many abandoned cells, where hermit monks once lived.
In Jericho, according to legend, was a famous meeting of the tax collector Zacchaeus with Jesus. In Jericho there is an object that is a symbol of that meeting - the famous tree of Zacchaeus.
The tree is located in the very center of Jericho. Zacchaeus had to climb this tree to see Christ, after which Jesus noticed the publican and spoke to him (this event is described in detail in the New Testament).
At the moment, this fifteen-meter sycamore tree (the Tutov family) is located next to the Greek temple in Jericho and is one of the most popular attractions that tourists seek to see.
Qasr al-Yahud is located in the Jordan Valley, not far from the confluence of the Jordan into the Dead Sea. According to the New Testament, this is the place where Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist. It is considered the true place of Baptism.
The Judean Desert is a desolate territory in Israel, located to the west of the Dead Sea. This is one of the most famous deserts of the world. In ancient times, it served as a refuge for hermits and rebels, and today the bedouins and Jewish settlers live here.
Trips around Judean desert are popular with tourists and pilgrims. They come here for the monasteries, the world’s oldest synagogue and other historical monuments that represent the living history of Israel for 2 000 years. People come to the Judean Desert to ride on off-road vehicles, quad bikes and bicycles. Many tourists are interested to see an unusual animal and plant world, which is preserved in protected areas near the Dead Sea.
