The legendary Stone Bridge crosses the Vltava River and has graced the capital of the Czech Republic since 1357. Its construction began in 1357 under the patronage of King Charles IV and was completed at the beginning of the 15th century. The bridge replaced the old Judith Bridge, built in 1158-1172, which was badly damaged by a flood in 1342. The new bridge was originally called Stone Bridge or Prague Bridge, but since 1870 it has been known as Charles Bridge.
