Attractions

Caesarea

Caesarea was built by the Jewish king Herod the Great, in honor of the Roman Caesar Octavian Augustus. From here the city got its name.
The city occupied an important position. Here was the Roman prosecutor's office and the main base of the Roman legion in Judea.
Today Caesarea attracts tourists, first of all, of course, for its ancient artifacts, buildings and ruins. Artifacts found during excavations will give an opportunity to touch the secrets of the "rich" life of the Roman nobility and ..... how can it be without Pontius Pilate?

Bahai Gardens in Haifa

The spiritual center on Mount Carmel in Haifa is one of the holiest places for Baha'i practitioners, the youngest monotheistic religion in the world. The center includes a temple, a tomb where the remains of the Bab, the ancestor of the faith, and famous gardens rest.

The tomb is an impressive building crowned by a gilded dome. It is equipped with a backlight. Thanks to her, the dome is illuminated at night, but so that it seems as if the source of radiance is inside it.

To get to the tomb, the guest have to go through the gardens that terraces cover the slope of Mount Carmel. There are twelve in all. Seeing this incredible work of human hands, you will understand why the gardens are called the eighth wonder of the world. The local collection contains about 450 species of various plants, among which there are unique flowers. Shrubs are sheared, and you probably will not find lawns more even and greener in the city. Add to this the fountains - isn't it awesome? Bahai Gardens is a monument not only to faith and its founder, but also to the harmony and great taste of architects.

Zikhron Ya'akov

In 1882, thanks to Baron Rothschild and his financial support, the town of Zichron Yaakov was founded. He became the first Jewish settlement of modern times. And the name was received in honor of the father of the baron - James. The first Jews who arrived here from Romania settled in the town.

Today, visitors to the city are attracted not so much by history as by “Gan Hadiv” - a huge park located a little distance from Zichron Ya'akov. Baron Rothschild and his wife are buried here.

Stella Maris Monastery

The monastery was built in the second half of the 18th century. During the period of the Napoleonic wars, the church was seriously damaged, and in the first half of the 19th century, the Turks wiped off its last remnants from the face of the earth. But a decade later, people began the reconstruction of the monastery and it opened its doors in 1836 on the same place. In the 20th century, it was in turn occupied by British and Israeli troops, but nowadays the monastery and the church recovered their original meaning. Today, the Stella Maris Cathedral is considered being the main spiritual center for the Carmelites of the whole world.

On December 30, I went on a tour of the cities: Caesarea, Haifa, Zichron Yaakov. I'm traveling alone. International group (representatives of the USA, Baltics, Ukraine and Russia) about 20 people (full seating on the bus). Cost: 200 shekels. Briefly about my impressions: 1. + comfortable minibus (clean, has Wi-Fi, USB connectors for charging gadgets); 2. + special respect to the guide Alik. If you go on an excursion with him, you won’t regret it! Modern, presents information very dynamically and interestingly, jokes, has a lively conversation, and gives out small gifts for correct answers and interesting questions. He could easily host an evening radio show in prime time. This is the case when you want to spend your free time with a group and listen to interesting stories from Alik, rather than exploring the surrounding area yourself. 3. + took us to a delicious place for lunch. Family restaurant (hakeves). Shared table, national cuisine (hummus, salads, flatbreads, very tasty cooked lamb, salads and much more). They are served in common plates. Costs 70 shekels, drinks (Homemade lemonade, water, a small glass of tea with spices) and live music are included in the price. For dessert they served a small portion of oriental sweets, but everyone was so full that dessert was not in demand. 4. + correct communication between the driver and the guide. We didn’t wait for the bus anywhere (I went to Jerusalem the day before, so the Driver behaved like a prince - he resolved personal issues on the road, we waited at one stop for 30 minutes, and you get rudeness when answering questions about timing). Here the Driver unobtrusively took part in the excursion, very sincerely told some details and created the complete impression that the guide and the Driver were one team. 5. + the excursion is adapted according to the requests of the guests. For example, you can ask to visit a winery or stay somewhere longer. Probably my review may seem like a custom one, but believe me, I am a very demanding and spoiled passenger. And I myself am surprised that I was so pleased. I’m comparing 2 excursions (the day before I went to Jerusalem through another company). I can say with confidence that 70% of the experience depends on the guide. So in Jerusalem I felt like I was back in time 15 years ago; the smell of mothballs didn’t leave me all day. We were taken to a “well-fed” store (prices were exactly 4 times higher than in neighboring tents and in $), a friendly canteen with disgusting food (we spent about an hour on the way there/back to it), boring stuff, moments of poetry from the guide’s deceased friends , 40 people, we couldn’t hear anything (all over the world they give out headphones for large groups), we were losing people. This was not the case here. As for the minuses, the main thing is - logistics. I was traveling from Ramat Gan, it took an endless amount of time to collect everyone along the way, then we waited and transferred to other buses. This takes too much time, and given that the collection was at 6:15, this is, of course, critical. What would I advise tourists: 1. Don't take a lot of food with you. Eating was not allowed on the buses (they tell colorful stories about the death of a tourist from anaphylactic shock due to the fact that someone ate peanuts. But in reality, they were simply too lazy to clean the interior after). And there’s not much time to eat at stops. 2. If you are traveling with a family or a large group, consider the option of an individual excursion. Now there are a lot of offers on the Internet (you can choose the price and look at reviews of the tour guide). For example, on the 5th it would be more profitable to take an individual guide around Jerusalem for the whole day and walk at your own pace than to go with such a large group. 3. Do not arrive too early at the collection point. Punctuality is not an Israeli's strong suit. 3 excursions, 3 companies, late from 10 to 40 minutes. By the way, about the fact that they were late, only Atlantis called. I hope this is their system and not an accident. 4. Be sure to provide the contact number of the person who is supposed to pick you up. See point 3. For its part, I would recommend the company itself (if you are so interested in feedback) to place a QR code on the business card. This will make it easier to enter the desired page and, as a result, increase the number of reviews left. I wish you bright impressions and interesting trips!
