Excursion «143. Israel in faces»

Class «Tourist class»
Type Group tour
Language Russian

The figure of Herod the Great is highly controversial. He has entered history, both of Israel and the world, as a person of extreme cruelty. However, he also did a great deal for the country and left behind not only his deeds but also impressive structures that continue to amaze to this day. Ancient Caesarea is the perfect place to see this for yourself. You will witness the Amphitheater and the Roman Theater, admire the port and the hippodrome, and observe the ancient aqueduct, all of which will dispel any doubts about the greatness of this man.

The next figure you will encounter is Harry Recanati. He founded the Ralli Museum, where you can see a truly unique collection of artworks. Original Salvador Dalí pieces are among the highlights, which should be enough to appreciate the scale. The museum's interior and exterior also deserve attention.

After that, you will visit Mount Carmel, specifically Muhraka, and meet the central figure of this part of the journey, the prophet Elijah. This place is famous for being where Elijah proved to the people of Israel and the priests of Baal who the true God was and immediately killed the pagans.

The final destination of the excursion is Bethlehem of Galilee. Its present appearance is owed to Gotthilf Schumacher, a historian and archaeologist from the Christian-Templar community. Today, Bethlehem of Galilee produces incredibly unique spices and blends. They are known worldwide, highly valued, and definitely worth experiencing the place where they are made!

Attractions

Mukhraka. Carmelite Monastery.

Muhraq Monastery is located on Mount Carmel. The biblical story says that once on this mountain there was a dispute between King Ahab and the prophet Elijah about the true God and true faith. The king was defeated in this argument. Later, already at the time of the Crusaders, an order of Carmelites appeared on Mount Carmel, for which the prophet Elijah became a spiritual patron. At the monastery there is a sculpture depicting Elijah, who brought a fire sword over the conquered priest. The monastery itself is quite small. Next to it there is an observation deck from which you can see a stunning panorama of the Jezreel Valley. The monastery is surrounded by a stunningly beautiful garden where you can take a leisurely stroll while admiring the beauty of the surroundings.

Caesarea

Caesarea was built by the Jewish king Herod the Great, in honor of the Roman Caesar Octavian Augustus. From here the city got its name.
The city occupied an important position. Here was the Roman prosecutor's office and the main base of the Roman legion in Judea.
Today Caesarea attracts tourists, first of all, of course, for its ancient artifacts, buildings and ruins. Artifacts found during excavations will give an opportunity to touch the secrets of the "rich" life of the Roman nobility and ..... how can it be without Pontius Pilate?

Ralli Museum

The relatively new Museum of Contemporary Latin American Art Rally, located in Caesarea (founded in the last decade of the twentieth century), is a popular destination for tourists. The museum is 700 square meters located on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea in a park area. The aim pursued by the founders of the museum is to draw people's attention to the visual art of Latin America. Four such museums have already been opened in the world today. Each of them exists without a commercial connotation, that is, admission here is free (which greatly expands the circle of visitors), and the museum has no cafes, no retail outlets, or souvenir shops. Also, on the way to the museum building, guests will enjoy a walk through a cozy courtyard, which contains many sculptures (including sculptures by Salvador Dali) and fountains.

Beit Lehem Haglilit

Beit Lehem Haglilit

This settlement is just over a century old. In 1906 it was founded by the Templers, representatives of an independent German religious organization that had split from the Lutheran Church in the mid-19th century. In the Alonei Tabor forest they built a village in German traditions, where they engaged in agriculture. Beit Lehem of Galilee became one of such settlements that sprang up throughout the country at that time.

Mount carmel

Mount Carmel is a long mountain range located on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. It is situated in northern Israel, near the city of Haifa. Within the scenic area, there are several natural parks, reserves, and magnificent man-made gardens, including the Bahá'í Gardens, which are popular among tourists.
