Kutná Hora is historically best known for its role as an important mining town and silver mining center. From the 13th to the 16th centuries, Kutná Hora was one of the richest and most important cities in Central Europe due to its extensive silver deposits.
The Cathedral of St. Barbara is the most famous architectural monument of the city of Kutna Hora. It is the second largest and most important Gothic church in the Czech Republic and was built in the late Gothic style. This cathedral is considered one of the most unusual Gothic buildings of its type in Central Europe.
The ossuary church is a functioning Roman Catholic church, built in a cemetery in a small area of the city of Kutna Hora. In the 13th century, soil from Golgotha was brought here, giving this place special significance as the Holy Land. Similar shrines also existed in Rome, Pisa and Paris.
