The Bosphorus is a strait between Europe and Asia Minor, connecting the Black Sea with the Sea of Marmara. Paired with the Dardanelles, it connects the Black Sea with the Aegean, which is part of the Mediterranean. On both sides of the strait is the largest Turkish city, Istanbul, occupying the eastern and western ends of the Pashaeli and Kocaeli peninsulas, respectively. The Bosporus and Dardanelles straits are known as the Black Sea (or Turkish) Straits.
