

Among the many medieval fortresses and castles, Karlštejn occupies a special place. Its significance is related to its purpose: holy relics and royal treasures were kept here. The castle, named after Charles IV, the Czech king and Holy Roman Emperor, is steeped in legend and historical grandeur.

Attractions

The majestic Karlštejn Castle began to be built on the orders of Charles IV in 1348 as a treasury for storing imperial coronation insignia; it occupies a completely exceptional position among Czech castles and fortresses. Many legends are associated with its history; it is a symbol of the golden times of the Czech lands. In addition to coronation insignia, it also housed royal treasures and collections of holy relics.

Křivoklát, known as Pürglitz to the Germans, is one of the most famous and oldest medieval castles belonging to the princes and kings of the Czech Republic. It is located in a place with the same name in the Rakovnik region of the Central Bohemian Region.
