Melnik Castle, located on a hill at the confluence of the Vltava and Laba rivers, dates back to the 9th century. Originally a village settlement, a stone fortress was built here in the 13th century, and in 1542 it was transformed into a stylish Renaissance castle. The castle, which has gone through several reconstructions, has retained elements of various architectural styles: Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque. Over the centuries, the owners of the castle have changed. Currently it belongs to the Lobkovich family, which is also involved in winemaking.
